Douglas Percy Bliss

Douglas Percy Bliss (1900-1984) was a British artist and art historian. He was born in London and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, where he later became a lecturer. Bliss was a prolific artist, producing paintings, drawings, and prints in various styles throughout his career. He was particularly interested in landscape painting and became a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1933.

In addition to his work as an artist, Bliss was also a respected art historian and author. He wrote several books on art, including “The History of Wood-Engraving in America” and “The Modern Movement in Art”. Bliss was also an expert on the work of the British artist Samuel Palmer, and wrote a definitive study of his life and art.
