Uglow studied at the Cmaberwell School of Arts from 1948 to 1951 and at the Slade School of art from 1951 to 1954 where he studied under the influence of William Coldstream. A predominantly figurative painter he used intense colours unrivalled by his teachers at the Euston Road School.
