Laura Knight
Dame Laura Knight (1877–1970)
Knight was one of the leading British painters of the twentieth century. Working as a professional artist without a break from the age of fourteen until almost the end of her life.
She was the first woman in over a century to be accepted as a full member of the Royal Academy and was made a Dame in 1929. Her rise to the top of her profession gave her a status equal to the most successful male artists of the time.
