A double issue of AA Files 45/46 focuses on the work of Georges Perec. One of the leading figures of postwar literature in France, Perec was fascinated by questions of space and memory, the principal themes of four newly translated texts on Paris. In Lieux, a project undertaken by Perec in 1969, twelve significant places in Paris were chosen, and each month two accounts of two places were to be made one in situ, one from memory. What emerges is an intimate portrait of the city, the author, and the relationship between them, a record of moments frozen into text. Contributions by poets, architects, artists and urbanists celebrate Perecs work, assessing and reflecting its impact throughout these fields. Contributors include Paul Virilio, Jacques Jouet, Harry Matthews, Richard Wentworth, Jean Louis Cohen, Terry Smith and Jason Oddy.
