This is the first monograph on the British artist Albert Irvin, whose large scale abstract paintings are among the most compelling and distinctive produced in Britain today. Paul Moorhouse traces the development of Irvin’s career and examines in detail the close relation between the artist’s life and work: from his childhood days in Bermondsey, London, to Irvin’s student days and his active service as a navigator in the RAF- an experience which had an unlikely but indelible effect on his art. He also explores the language of Irvin’s painting, the ways in which this is used to express what Irvin has described as ‘the experience of being in the world’, and the subsequent evolution of the highly personal abstract style which defines his work to the present day.

In very good condition.
