Paperback.  First edition. Seventh issue of this iconic quarterly edited by Myfanwy Piper.  Contains the explosive ‘England’s Climate’, an article in which John Piper and Geoffrey Grigson argue for a return to figuration and the English landscape.   ‘Any Constable, any Blake, any Turner has something an abstract or a surrealist painting cannot have.  Hence, partly, the artist’s pique about them now, and his terror of the National Gallery.  The point is fullness, completeness: the abstract qualities of all good painting together with the symbolism (at least) of life itself.  Condition: some light toning and scuffing.  Spine worn (binding strong).
