Between 1950 and 1980, a pioneering group of painters, began pursuing new directions, representing the human body with unprecedented expressiveness, seeking to capture more accurately the truth of human existence. At the core were a few known as the School of London artists, but Bare Life also focuses on a wider circle with similar aspirations. With 295 colour illustrations, the artists include: Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Frank Auerbach, Richard Hamilton, R.B. Kitaj, Leon Kosoff, Euan Uglow, William Coldstream, Michael Andrews, etc.
