Original wood engraving by Paul Nash (1925). From an edition of 45. This is one of the trial proofs taken from the original block in the V & A by Ian Mortimer for Garton and Cooke in 1985.

‘This design first appeared as the title page illustration to Welchman’s Hose. The Curwen Press subsequently purchased the rights from Nash to use it as a stockblock, and Nash himself used it, printed in red, on the front cover of his CEMA catalogue of Applied Design in 1943.’
