Camping at Night, Australia Print by Kenneth Rowntree

Rowntree visited Australia in 1986. He headed for the outback where he spent time painting. Here he finds an enchanted scene. In the foreground a lushness of grass interspersed with the burnt ochre of dried eucalyptus leaves from the trees mid-ground. Further back is the side of a huge rock, or hill, its face bathed in hot, orange sunlight. We’ve a tent, and a caravan, a tripod, and a table prepared with evening wine. Rowntree, in typical fashion, has reduced these forms to their simplest shapes and textures. And as so often, he has captured the particularities of place. This campsite seems perfectly situated, languid in the heat of an evening sun. Giclée print, Limited Edition (1/950) on 310gms thick, 100% cotton rag. Hand-numbered and hand-embossed.
