In this war time painting we see two huge war ships lying at anchor in a harbour, probably in Iceland. The one in the foreground has camoflage painted upon it’s hull. This night time scene has beautiful blues, ochres and oranges and typically for Ravilious, no figures feature in the composition at all. These elegant ships exude a quiet majesty.
