Ethelbert White himself was a legend in his own lifetime. The naive, rustic charm and simple gaiety of his art reinforced his image as an artist who led a Bohemian life, travelling the country in a gypsy caravan. This account of the happy and unusual life of Ethelbert White attempts to convey the qualities of sincerity, simplicity and honest delight which characterised the man and which permeate and inform his oeuvre of paintings and prints.
