Fernando De Szyszlo (2003)

Alongside the Chilean Roberto Matta, Fernando de Szyszlo (Lima, 1925) is one of the most important influences in post-war Latin American art. Associated with the Parisian avant-garde, in the fifties De Szyszlo took part in significant exhibition projects including the Sao Paulo and Venice biennials. His oeuvre, represented in the most discerning collections, has drawn from the mythical legacy of pre-Columbian cultures without forsaking the abstract language of the historical avant-garde, of which he has proven to be a devoted follower. This monograph, which comprises an extensive essay by Dore Ashton, and is illustrated with more than 200 colour plates, presents a comprehensive survey on Szyszlo’s career. The book includes a complete biography and bibliography of the artist.
