In the her ice-cream coloured canvases, Laura Owens composes liberally and with immense imagination veritable picture stories. Inspired by a cultured and childlike poetics full of references to the history of abstract painting, the artist playfully weaves infinite abstractions and figurations, formalism and ironic pop, boldly mixing sensual hues with brushstrokes which are sometimes delicate, sometimes dramatic. Her “landscapes” bewitch the onlooker with their extremely original style and invite him to observe close, triggering an explosion of joy and pleasure. Born in Ohio in 1970 Laura Owens lives and works in Los Angeles; represented by European and American galleries her works can already be seen in the collections of major American museums.
