Cover by Keith Vaughan. “Harvest” was drawn for us by Keith Vaughan, who paints in his studio without a model from material gathered at various times, rather than out of doors. “I build up the picture in my mind with the help of notes, which I draw whenever something seems worth remembering.” Keith Vaughan was born in 1912 at Selsey and went to Christ’s Hospital school. He has had no art training—he had to earn his living as soon as he left school and became an advertising layout-man. “Constantly working is the best training for an artist anyway.” Had his first one-man show during the war at the Lefevre Galleries, while he was an Army private. His favourite theme for painting or drawing: people in landscape.
