Lucian Freud: Drawings brings together a compilation of Lucian Freud’s graphic work selected with the assistance of the late artist. Beginning in the 1940s and spanning the artist’s career, this densely illustrated volume, features a number of the works never before exhibited or reproduced.
Distinguished writer and art critic William Feaver presents works that range from the intimate, including portraits of his mother and father, his children and close friends – among them the painter Francis Bacon – to landscapes and studies of animals. Etchings, watercolours, gouaches and works rendered in chalk, charcoal, pastel, conté, and pen and ink, are to be interspersed with oil paintings, constantly interrelating.
Published by Blain|Southern in association with Acquavella Galleries to accompany the exhibition Lucian Freud: Drawings at Blain|Southern, London, 17 February – 5 April 2012, and Acquavella Galleries, NY, 1 May – 9 June 2012.
