The 1984 revised edition of Sir John Rothenstein’s pioneering attempt to chronicle the lives of modern English artists.  3 volumes in original pictorial wrappers.  Volume One covers the lives and works of twenty-one artists including William Nicholson, Gwen and Augustus John, Matthew Smith and Wyndham Lewis.  Volume Two covers the lives of nineteen artists including David Bomberg, John Armstrong, Percy Horton, Barnett Freedman, Ceri Richards and Edward Bawden.  Volume Three covers the lives and works of twenty-one artists including Thomas, Hennell, Eric Ravilious, Michael Rothenstein, Alan Reynolds, Elisabeth Frink and Euan Uglow.  Still one of the best sources of information on modern British artists.   Bindings strong and tight.  Very good set
