Piccadilly Circus on Boat Race Night by Eric Ravilious

Ravilious’ design for a Wedgwood ceramic in celebration of the famous annual boat race, between Oxford and Cambridge Universities. We’ve arrived post-race in Piccadilly Circus. Celebrations abound: from double-deckers, roofs and atop cars. And even Anteros, Greek God of requited love (dubbed London’s most famous sculpture) seems to be celebrating from on-high. This is a joyful depiction: strongly designed, and poignant with celebratory atmosphere.
