The New Situation : Art in London in the Sixties

A catalogue produced to accompany the exhibition The New Situation — Art In London In The Sixties, at Sotheby’s, London, in 2013.

The London art scene of the Swinging Sixties was recreated in an exhibition that claimed some of its forgotten stars as the original Young British Artists. John Kasmin  curated a show with Sotheby’s that aimed to capture the spirit of a decade whose stars won immediate and widespread success, like that later enjoyed by Damien Hirst and other young artists championed by the likes of Charles Saatchi. Important post-war names such as Richard Smith, Bernard Cohen and Jeremy Moon were included in the show alongside acknowledged stars such as Hockney, Bridget Riley and Sir Anthony Caro.
