The Smith Brothers of Chichester

William, George and John Smith, sons of a Chichester tradesman and known collectively as the Smith Brothers of Chichester, were highly regarded painters of portraits, still-lives and landscapes in the 18th century. Through their representation of the English landscape they contributed greatly to the development of the Picturesque aesthetic in England in the mid-18th century. This catalogue was published to accompany the exhibition held at Pallant House Gallery in  Chichester, May – August 1986.
