Water-Colour Drawings by Eric Ravilious (1933) (Zwemmer Gallery)

Very scarce single-sheet catalogue for Ravilious’s successful 1933 exhibition of watercolour drawings at the Zwemmer Gallery, London, 24 November–16 December. Single folded sheet, 21.5 × 13 cm, listing 37 works with prices. As Andy friend writes of the show ‘The friday night opening was followed by a celebration  dinner in Greek Sreet, remembered as marvellous by Tirzah, and the next day Zwemmer’s was hopeful about sixteen possible sales. Over the next three weeks this tally edged up to twenty actual purchases and was further enhanced soon after when the connoisseur Sir Michael Sadler bought one of the Heysham pictures, Buoys and Gripping Hooks, for his private collection. After deduction of commission, Bawden had made £158 and Ravilious £157 from their respective shows, a confidence-instilling exercise that was a precursor to a new phase in Ravilious’s watercolour drawing.’ Condition: Some dust marks to covers; crease to the top left corner tip of the rear cover.
