Edited by Albert Rutherston. American edition of the important study of Nicholson’s work in the ‘Contemporary British Artists’ series first published by Ernest Benn. ‘When I was asked to write on the work of Mr William Nicholson, I had some fear lest my own personal enjoyment of it would lend my pen to overpraise. To make matters worse I know the man, and hold him in esteem above his painting. Still, my consolation is that I can sit only one of the horns of a dilemma at a time’.  Condition: no dust-wrapper. Toning to endpapers, edges of frontispiece and edges of text-block. Boards a little worn to extremities.
