Printed on grand vélin d’Arches. Derain’s austere and classical interpretation of incidents from Petronius’s savage and bawdy Roman satire. Conceived in the 1930s for Ambroise Vollard. A fine example of Derain’s retreat from the excesses of Fauvism to a more constrained classical style. Condition: some light spotting.
