Motif: A Journal of the Visual Arts, edited by Ruari McLean and published by The Shenval Press Ltd between 1958 and 1967. A surperb set comprising volumes 1–12, lacking the final issue no. 13.  Volumes 1-9 hardbacks featuring decorative silk-screened covers. Later issues issued in semi-stiff wrappers. Motif 10 with original belly band. Profusely illustrated throughout in colour and black and white and containing essays, articles, and visual material relating to painting, sculpture, photography, architecture, typography, lettering, wood-engraving, and other aspects of the visual arts.  Artists include: Elisabeth Frink, Eduardo Paolozzi, Edward Ardizzone, Edward Bawden, Michael Rothenstein, Lynn Chadwick, Reg Butler, Laurence Scarfe, Fritz Kredel, Joan Hassall, Reynolds Stone, Berthold Wolpe, Lynton Lamb, Robert Stewart, Roderick Barrett, John Minton, Barnett Freedman and many more.
