‘This book about painting is the first of a series of revaluations and deals with the work of Duncan Grant from the point of view of John Rowdon.’ Illustrated, including The Bathers, with a letter from Duncan Grant. Scarce study of Grant’s work, published in May 1934. In The Listener that same month, Eric Newton wrote: ‘Mr John Rowdon ranks him [Grant] with Gainsborough and Constable. This may be the pardonable language of enthusiasm, but Mr Rowdon is right to compare him with these two masters of picture-building.’

Possible author’s signature to front paste-down: ‘John June 1934’. Boards heavily sunned, with some chipping to head and tail of spine. Some slight spotting to endpapers, pastedowns and text-block.
