Scarce October 1938 issue of the London Bulletin, edited by Belgian Surrealist and gallerist E.L.T. Mesens and Roland Penrose. Features Herbert Read’s essay on Picasso’s Guernica, accompanied by a photograph of the work in Picasso’s studio taken by Dora Maar. At the time of publication, Guernica was on show at the New Burlington Galleries alongside many of the accompanying preparatory paintings, sketches for the great painting.  Poems inspired by Guernica by Paul Eluard and George Reavey. Contributions from prominent figures such as Andre Breton, Frederick Brockway on Giorgio de Chirico, and Ruthven Todd on John Piper.  Additionally, this issue includes catalogues of the Giorgio de Chirico and Humphrey Jennings exhibitions that were on at the same time at the London Gallery.
