Film posters are by their nature ephemeral, and very few of them deserve to be preserved. But the posters produced by Ealing Studios are an exception. Specially commissioned from such artists as Edward Ardizzone, John Piper, Edward Bawden, Ronald Searle and John Minton, these posters were as distinctive and idiosyncratic as the films (films like Kind Hearts and Coronets, Passport to Pimlico, Dead of Night, The Cruel Sea) which they advertised in the 1940s and 1950s.
They are reproduced in this book, as a tribute to their designers and to the film company which had the imagination to commission them.
