Signed to title-page by Willing’s wife and fellow painter, Paula Rego. Victor Willing first came to prominence in 1955 and his mature work, based on the operations of the subconscious and with reference to writers and theorists such as Nietzsche, Sartre, and Tristan Tzara, was both responsive to and influential on the contemporary London art scene. Published in close collaboration with Willing’s widow, the artist Paula Rego, the book provides the fullest possible record and evaluation of the work of this important artist.
