One of 330 copies, this being number 326. Quarter bound in cloth with holly patterned paper covered boards. Pages untrimmed.  Illustrated by Randolph Schwabe.  Magical, whimsical work first produced in 1919. The story centers around the Wildersham children, who, due to the terms of a will, must move from their family home in the city to an estate called “Crossings” in the countryside. They are required to spend the first two weeks alone, during which they encounter various supernatural beings, including ghosts and fairies, though it remains unclear whether these encounters are dreams or reality. Condition: Gilt tilting to spine a little faded. Cloth spine a little worn to top edge. Boards a little worn to corners, otherwise very good.
