Sven Berlin

Sven Berlin (1911-1999) was a British artist, writer, and poet who was born in London, England. He was known for his figurative paintings, drawings, and sculptures that often depicted mythological and allegorical themes.

Berlin’s early work was heavily influenced by the surrealist movement, and his paintings often included dreamlike imagery and distorted figures. Later in his career, he moved towards a more expressive and abstract style, using bold colors and gestural brushstrokes.

In addition to his work as an artist, Berlin was also a prolific writer and poet. He wrote several books, including “The Dark Monarch,” a fictionalized account of his life in Cornwall, where he lived for many years. Berlin was also a key figure in the artistic community in St. Ives, Cornwall, and he was associated with the St. Ives School of artists.
