William Herbert Allen (1863-1943) was a well-known figure in the Farnham and Alton area. He was Director of Farnham School of Art for 37 years and during his lifetime forged strong links with Alton, both through family connection and his relationship with the Curtis Museum where he taught art classes was one of the founding members of the Alton Art Society from 1926.
