Hardback.  First edition in original dust-jacket.  Piper’s passionate defence of the Romantic English tradition. ‘Romantic art deals with the particular.  The particularization of Bewick about a bird’s wing, of Turner about a waterfall or a hill town, or of Rossetti abouth Elizabeth Siddall, is the result of a vision that can see in these things something significant beyond ordinary significance’.  Condition: dust-jacket slightly foxed with some light wear to edges and a little segement of loss to top left corner of front panel.  Pictorial boards a little edge-worn.  Previous owner’s signature to top right corner of front end-paper.  Some light foxing to end-papers, otherwise very good.
