Inscribed to Nial Devitt by Geoffrey Wakeman on colophon. With 18 fascicules, each devoted to a different printing process and containing an original specimen leaf showing the technique discussed, along with an additional introductory fascicule. Housed in the publisher’s red buckram solander box with gilt-blocked spine labels. Prospectus loosely inserted. An important reference work on the history of printing and illustration. The specimen leaves include examples of woodcut, photogravure, mezzotint, stipple engraving, Woodburytype and other processes. Condition: a light touch of wear to box, otherwise fine.
