Gustav Klutsis and Valentina Kulagina: Photography and Montage After Constructivism (2004)

Accompanied the International Center of Photography exhibition in New York and is the first major English-language study of Gustav Klutsis, one of the leading pioneers of Soviet Constructivist photomontage. It also gives equal attention to his wife and collaborator, Valentina Kulagina, whose work as a poster, exhibition and book designer has long been overlooked. Drawing on family archives, the book reproduces paintings, posters, photomontages, magazine designs, street displays, documentary photographs and private family photographs, alongside translated extracts from Klutsis’s letters and Kulagina’s diaries. Condition: boards a little rubbed to extremities.
