Scarce first edition of this collection of seasonal drinks compiled by herbalist and cookery writer Hilda Leyel. Published as part of Leyel’s The Lure of Cooking series. “This book is intended for people with limited incomes, but the drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, if made with good material need no apology even as an acompaniment to a French dinner”. Offers a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic recipes, from traditional English cordials to contemporary American-inspired refreshments. Olive green cloth. Illustrated unclipped dust wrapper designed by Tallows Stanfield. 19cm x 13cm. Condition: Unclipped dust wrapper lightly age-toned with scattered marking. Light damp staining to its lower spine, extending onto the rear panel, with slight cockling to the paper. Dust-wrapper’s spine also lightly sunned with some very minor chips to the head and tail. Two small closed tears to top edge of wrapper’s front panel and one to bottom corner of rear flap. Cloth boards lightly sunned to spine and rear panel; the damp stain to the lower spine has left a faint corresponding mark to the spine of the binding.
