Tea and a Slice of Art: The Lyons Lithographs 1946-1955

This beautifully illustrated book by Charlie Batchelor, celebrates the post-war lithographs commissioned by catering giant J. Lyons & Co. from some of Britain’s most popular artists – including Edward Bawden, John Piper, David Gentleman, John Minton, William Scott and John Nash. The art works were commissioned to combat a decline in the interior décor of their famous teashops in a period of post-war austerity.  Through the company’s imaginative approach to interior decoration, the cream of modern British art reached a wider public audience.
