‘Thus, she would come, escaped, half-dead to my door’ is taken from a series of twenty-two vibrant images by Patrick Caulfield called ‘Some Poems of Jules Laforgue’. Created as complementary images to the text rather than illustrations, the melancholy atmosphere of Caulfield’s interiors find a direct counterpart in Laforgue’s poetry. Caulfield was a great admirer of the work of the French poet Jules Laforgue (1860-1887) since first reading it in 1961.

Published in a print run of 250. Produced on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm.
