Signed by both Houthuesen and his greatest champion, John Rothenstein. Limited to 250 copies, this being number 12. Lacks lithographic print. Lather back boards. Housed in original slipcase. Folio. “Albert Houthuesen is a solitary figure in the history of contemporary painting. Indeed his existence as a painter would even now have been scarcely recognized had it not been for the enterprise and perseverance that in the fifties a lifelong friend devoted to securing an exhibition for him. The result of her labours was the first exhibition of his work, held in 1961. The acclamation with which this exhibition was greeted gave him recognition as a painter. But he remains a no less solitary figure. I know of none more solitary than he, never at any time a member of a ‘group’ or a ‘movement’”. Condition: very good.
