Julian Bell: Essays, Poems and Letters (1938)

Posthumous collection edited by his brother Quentin Bell. Includes a mix of Bell’s poetry, essays, and letters, plus tributes from  J.M. Keynes, E.M. Forster, and C. Day Lewis. The book reflects on Bell’s life, including his untimely death in the Spanish Civil War while serving as an ambulance driver. Only 1,200 copies of this edition were printed, with half reportedly pulped due to limited demand. Condition: no dust-wrapper. Green cloth boards a little worn with rubbing to foot of spine. Slight cracking to rear hinge. Some faint spotting to edges of text-block and pastedowns, otherwise very good. Scarce.
