‘Cock and Hen’ by Rupert Shephard

This is a celebration of fowl in their habitat, of the beauty of thistle and thorn, vine and flower and leaves of corn. We are in the bosky verges of things in this linocut. Far away on the horizon, barely visible, is a man with horse and plough, but our attention is with the cock and the hen, pecking amongst an abundance of plants and weeds: ‘long and lovely and lush’.
