Published posthumously the story centres on Pippinella, a charming green canary who recounts her life’s adventures to Doctor Dolittle. Initially serialized in the New York Herald Tribune in 1924, Lofting planned to expand the story into book form, though he died away before finishing it. The book was later completed by Lofting’s sister-in-law, Olga Fricker, who worked from his drafts and existing material. Condition: dust-wrapper lightly worn to extremities. Inscription to previous owner to top left corner of front endpaper. Some light spotting to fore-edge of text block, otherwise very good.
