The art of Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) captured the spirit of the twentieth century: modern English watercolours, witty and concise wood engravings, and a range that spanned designs for Wedgwood ceramics and the Everyman Library. The Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden – which shares with Ravilious an Essex home – holds a unique collection of his work, beautifully illustrated here and accompanied by illuminating new texts by Frances Spalding and Alan Powers.
