Home Front Furniture: British Utility Design 1941-1951

During 1941-1951, all major areas of British design came under the aegis of Government, in a programme known as the Utility Scheme. This text considers this scheme within the context of the earlier ideologically-based British design movement, and stresses the impact it had on furniture design.
