Text in French

By collecting the most beautiful travel objects, Hermès has, since the 19th century, assembled an exceptional collection. Finally, by offering the most exquisite works from its artisan creators, the house has always nourished the spirit of Hermès: the art of gesture, the art of giving meaning, and the art of making.

For the first time, we can admire the origin of these rare objects and their connection to the book that chose them.

It seemed interesting, even essential, to highlight the link between these pieces and the most beautiful artistic creations of Hermès, not only for their beauty, perfection of execution, and legendary craftsmanship but also to pay aesthetic tribute to the realm of beauty.

All the photographs are taken specifically by Guy Lucas de Peslouan. Thanks to the angles of his lights, he has restored these objects to their status as works of art, granting them the tangible aura originally conferred by their creators.

Jérôme Guerrand, in the introduction, speaks to us about Hermès’ founder, who imprinted the beauty of travel in the Faubourg Saint-Honoré office. He describes the traveler of yesterday and today.

In her text Cheval lilas avec mots (Lilac Horse with Words), Maryline Desbiolles composes a sinuous voyage. Her drawing follows the movement of the viaticum, “what is used to make the journey.”

Michèle Gazier invites us on a journey through the land of objects. She enlightens us on their history, meaning, and magic. For her, as for us, these inanimate objects have a soul.
