Text in French. It was in 1920 that Picasso began to spend his summer holidays in Antibes Juan-les-Pins, where he returned almost every year, at the same season, until the beginning of the Second World War. There he made paintings and drawings of the villas where he stayed with his family as well as summer visitors on the beach, but also many studies for paintings that he executed in the studio once he returned to Paris. All these works are bathed in the light of the Mediterranean and testify to the pleasure with which the artist returns to the shores of the sea where he was born. It was this familiarity and taste for the singular territory of the Côte d’Azur that prompted him to return there after the war, in particular in 1946, a stay that gave birth to the collection of the Musée d’Antibes, where the artist further revealed his affinity for this city in compositions reflecting its classical and mythological past. Rich in a hundred works executed in Antibes Juan-les-Pins, the exhibition, and this book that accompanies it, shed new light on these eminently studious holidays. Condition: very good.
