Published in November 1944, this booklet marked the regrouping of the British Surrealists around E. L. T. Mesens after divisions within the movement. Contents include a special ‘Homage to Alfred Jarry’, featuring Jarry’s Song of Unbraining translated by Mesens and Sybil Mesens, drawings by Jarry, and tributes to his influence on Surrealism.  Illustrations throughout by Jarry, Pablo Picasso, John Banting, Edith Rimmington, F. A. Cazals and Robert Baxter. Highlights include Breton’s ‘Answer to Grave-Diggers’, poems by leading Surrealists, and correspondence relating to the controversial pamphlet Idolatry & Confusion. There is also John Banting’s rather dismissive review of the Penguin Modern Painters series and its artists Nash, Moore and Sutherland. Condition: some light spotting and a small stain to bottom right corner of rear cover.
