Text in French. Edition of 1000 numbered copies. Michel Tapié, a French critic and curator, coined the term “Art Autre” to describe a new wave of abstract expressionism and informal art that diverged from traditional artistic norms. This catalogue was instrumental in promoting and defining this movement. With the ownership signature of Tapie’s friend, Peter Watson, to front endpaper. Watson (1908–1956) was an major English art collector and patron. He played a crucial role in supporting modern art and literature during the mid-20th century. He financially backed the influential literary magazine Horizon, and served as its art editor, commissioning articles on major artists like Picasso, Balthus, and Klee. He was also a benefactor to artists such as Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, and John Craxton.
Condition: covers a little worn and spotted to extremities. Front hinge a little weak, otherwise very good.
