Folio with glassine dust-wrapper housed in original slipcase. Striking black-and-white portraits of prominent figures from the mid-20th century, including Pablo Picasso, Marilyn Monroe, J. Robert Oppenheimer, Katharine Hepburn, Mae West, Charlie Chaplin, Coco Chanel, Louis Armstrong, Humphrey Bogart, Ezra Pound, W. Somerset Maugham, and Isak Dinesen . Avedon’s portraits are known for their emotional depth and minimalist style, often captured against plain white backgrounds, emphasizing the subject’s personality and presence. First UK edition published at the same time the American. Condition: Slipcase worn to extremities and corners with some tanning, spotting and light dust-marks. Glassine dust-wrapper has some loss to top right corner of its front panel. Bottom edge of the spine is bumped and worn, with visible exposure of the bookbinding and red cloth spine underneath.
