In 1975 David Reed exhibited a series of new paintings at the New York gallery Susan Caldwell. Christopher Wool, a young artist at the time, saw the show and it struck him with force. In the intervening forty years, the memory of those paintings, or the imagined memory, has lingered and resurfaced. This book describes the paintings themselves and also reflects the complicated relations between the past and the present moment.
