“The Second International Art Exhibition in Japan was held in Tokyo. Besides the Japanese painters, a large number of painters from nine countries in Europe, North America and South America were participant in this exhibition. I believe that the International Art Exhibition in Japan was not only one of the most important events in the post-war Japanese art world, but also the noteworthy historic event in the international art world. After the World War II, three rich one-man shows of Matisse, Picasso and Braque were opened in Tokyo one after another. Through these shows and the International Art Exhibition in Japan, the artists and art lovers in Japan who had been out of the foreign art world during the war, could understand clearly the remarkable advances and activities of foreign artists, and at the same time, have realized the situation and character of the contemporary Japanese art in the world.” Condition: very good: some light wear and marks to covers. Slight chipping to top of spine.

Ben Nicholson’s copy of the catalogue with his initials and note in ink to front cover: “BN colour repro”
