“The Lucerne Art Museum affirms its commitment to the exhibition “Thesis, Antithesis, Synthesis” by expanding its mission for the first time to provide a systematic insight into that contemporary art which, transcending national boundaries, unites all those restless spirits associated with a true artistic expression of our 20th century. The museum takes this step with the conviction that it is not only a duty but also an obligation of our artistic circles to engage with the contemporary problems of the individual.” From the Forward.
Text in German. Scarce exhibition catalogue designed by the renowned typographer Jan Tschichold for a significant show featuring artists of the inter-war avant-garde. Tschichold’s cover design, which presents a vertical list of the participating artists’ names, became an influential model for later art catalogues. Notably, this particular copy belonged to Ben Nicholson, one of the featured artists. Nicholson’s ownership label to front endpaper.
Condition: very good: two small tape repairs to cover.
